The meeting was called to order by President Finck at 1530
Secretary-Treasurer Aaron Reed provided a report on the financial status of the society.
- the society was operating at a deficit
President Finck asked for volunteers to begin work on a constitution for the society
- Jerry Choate and Tom Tomasi volunteered
President-elect Kaufman asked for assistance in defining the responsibilities of board members
- P-E Kaufman suggested staggering the election of board members
President-elect Kaufman suggested that keynote speakers be selected from universities that did not regularly attend the meeting
- Stan Roth suggested that personnel from government agencies should also be considered
- President Finck stated that the speaker should still come from the central plains states
- The amount of an honorarium was also discussed and a figure of $150 was suggested
President-elect Kaufman also suggested that the deadline for submission of talks be moved farther away from the date of the meeting and suggested that the society should require abstracts to be submitted at the same time as a title.
- Moving the date of submission back (earlier) was accepted as a good idea
- Lynn Robbins stated that submission of abstracts could complicate the meeting
- Tom Tomasi suggested that email addresses of authors be included in the program to facilitate communication
President Finck encouraged all students to apply for the CPSM research award
- discussion of the application process and judging followed
- the application is a work in progress and will be refined through time
- judging is difficult as the society is small and bias is inevitable also that judging M. S. and Ph. D. projects with the same criteria is difficult
- the question of identifying applicants on the program was discussed but the idea was tabled for future consideration
President Finck announced the winner of the CPSM student research award

President-elect Kaufman announced that Southwest Missouri State University
had offered to host the 2003 meeting of CPSM
- Tom Tomasi gave a presentation detailing the facilities available at SMSU
President-elect Kaufman moved that the 2003 annual meeting of the Central Plains Society of Mammalogists be held at Southwest Missouri State University
- The motion was seconded
- Stan Roth asked when the meeting would be held as a bat research symposium was being held during the second weekend of October
- The date of the 2003 meeting was then changed to 27 September 2003
- The motion was passed
President Finck and the Society thanked Greg Smith for his work to make the 2002 annual meeting of the Central Plains Society of Mammalogists a success.
